Just finished this 48"H x 30"W acrylic on canvas painting of the historic Grand Canyon Cafe neon sign. The cafe first opened in 1943. Fred Wong and his wife Tina purchased the cafe from Fred's uncle and father, and ran until 2018. New owners tried to revive the cafe after Fred and Tina's retirement, but it wasn't the same and the venture failed. The landmark neon sign still sits proudly above the building which sits on Route 66 in Flagstaff, AZ. I really loved painting this old weathered sign, I like the clouds in the background, and the color scheme, virtually no warm colors which is very unusual for me. Preserving classic neon, one painting at a time.
